We have often talked about the importance of our car's paintwork, as it is similar to our body's skin in that it repels dirt, moisture and practically protects the bodywork from external agents, which is why any damage, no matter how small it may seem, can cause this defence to gradually deteriorate.
That is why it is important to take care of our paintwork, even if it is just a tiny scratch, which can lead to major damage to the shiny coating of our vehicle and, of course, can also reduce the market value of our vehicle.
Scratches are unpleasant because no matter how they got there, they give the impression of neglect, which is why it is so important to combat them and that is what we are going to talk about today.
To remove or cover scratches there are special products that can help to remove them as well as firmly adhered surface contaminants and completely revitalize the exterior finish of the car, in this case we are referring to scratch removers, which exist in great quantity and quality in the market. The most important thing to know before fighting scratches is that your car has four layers of paint, and most scratches only affect the surface (the clear coat) while a few scratches affect all the other layers. The deeper a scratch is, the more intense the treatment will be to repair it.
The first thing you should do to start with the repair is precisely to identify the depth and immediately clean the surface and remove the possible remains of paint that have been left, then, with adhesive tape around the scratch or scratches and with a microfibre apply polish and proceed to polish.
If the scratches go beyond the clear or top coat, you will have to use a polishing product with a remover effect and if the damage is more severe, you will have to resort to painting, which can be done on a low budget with an anti-scratch pen or a coat of paint, for which the first thing to do is to identify the colour code, which is usually on the label on the driver's door.
